| This picture is a combination of hip hop artists Jay- Z and Kanye West. Sorta on the creepy side. This picture was kind of my influence on what i wanted to do even though mine will look nothing like this. |
Social/Media Critique
What is the concept behind your project?- The concept is to blend different featues from diferent hip hop artists to produce a whole new face.
Why does this particular subject matter interest you?-Many people have their favorite hip hop artists and it just interests me to see many of those artists put together in a certain way.
Describe, in detail, how you plan to communicate this concept visually.- I have a total of 24 rap artists, and thereare aproximately about 7-8 major features on a face. I will create 3 faces. The combination of artists will be based on their skin tones. I will then take features from each of them to form a completely different face that looks nothing like just one of the artists. Then under the faces, I will give the list of rap artists on each face, basically to make it like a guessing game of what features belong to who.
What types of images do you plan to appropriate? How will you borrow without violating copyright law?- I plan on taking the features from clear face shots of the artists. I will borrow without violating copyright law because I am taking small features from the pictures so that you will never quite know what the orginal picture looks like.
Which artists/thinkers/writers have influenced your ideas?- My over all influence is a picture of basically, a combination of hip hop artists Jay-Z and Kanye West. And also Nancy Burson, who almost morphs faces together to create new faces.

Copyrights & Art Article
The article is explaining basically the laws to using someone elses piece of work. The system is broken into three choices of using somebody elses work. The three choices are; freeware, copyright protected material, and photos in the public domain. Freeware is free works of copyrighted material. Copyright protected material is material that you have to pay for in order to use. Photographs in the public domain are pictures in libraries, on the internet etc. Th article talks about the privacy and publicity laws and having to get permission to use another persons piece of work to combine with our own. The whole concept to me is still quite confusing so that is the best summary i could get. It is very interesting, the most simple things have the most rules and laws to using or sharing.

Assignment 1 Psychological Self-Portrait
This here, is the completed version of my psychological self-portrait. this is kind of hard to explain really. I wanted the picture to convey the piece of me that seems to grow as the days go, my love for art. this, was a very simple way of showing it.
I used a combination of my fathers artwork that he has made for me recently and photos that i have taken. The dream catcher is one of my fathers pieces that he made himself that i scanned onto the computer. also, the patches and circles are kind of like, snippets of a cloth that he painted. The camera is one of my old film cameras that i decided to take a picture of. The paintbrush and paints were out for another project i had but i loved the way they were placed. In the left corner, is my buckeye necklace because that's what i am! GO BUCKS!
I feel like this picture can describe me because the bright colors and patterns. My mother always tells me "you're a very bright girl, remember that". Me being "bright" has led to me getting to Ohio State and working on my major in fine art in photography. All of the jumbles of art in my mind will some day help me live out my dreams. So, with that explanation, I feel like the picture is a good self-portrait of me. Hope you guys like :)

Self Portrait
This here, is what i have so far for my self portrait. My creative juices are still working with this one and my layers on photoshop were spazzing out on me so i had to stop here for now. Any suggestions?
Christiane Paul Reading
Three Artists that stood out to me in the reading were :
1. Charles Csuri- I like how he blends colors and gives a bright appearance to them. He also gives a cool three-dimensional look to his work.
2. Casey Williams- I enjoy nature, so her art of the water catches my eye. the reflections off of the water is very eye catching. It is very interesting how she puts the water in all of her work.
3. Carl Fudge- His work is very eye catching because it is more abstract. The color he adds to the art gives it a warm feeling and it seems like the colors are flowing together
Hmph, weird all of the artists I liked names started with the letter C. Just wanted to add that fun fact :)

George Rush : Darker with the Day : Interpret the artwork
I feel like the meaning of the artwork is to show the change of shadows in the day and how some things change and some stay the same. The dark tones give more of a depressed theme to the series, but i can appreciate why Rush chose black and white. To me, black and white makes you focus in more on the concept of the paintings. it gives a mysterious feel. The series makes me wonder if this is supposed to be showing a part of somebody's life without the person actually in the series.
Questions:
Do you thing the painting would have more or less meaning if you put a living thing in it? Ex human, cat, dog?
Would color have effected the purpose of the series?
Why just 5 pieces? Why not more?

George Rush : Darker with the Day :Describe the artwork
The name of the exhibition was "Darker with the Day" by artist George Rush. The work was created with acrylic paint on canvas. The series was made with lots of black, whit, and grey tones with very sharp lines and shadows. The subject of the series is basically showing a table, with simple, every day objects on it in front of a window. Three of the five pieces show the same table in front of the window and the outside seems to be getting darker. The shades of the outside change. The other two pieces are a window that gives a "looking in" perspective, where through the window is dark and a window that gives a "looking outside" perspective, as though the viewer is looking outside of the window. Some of the viewers were not quite attracted to the theme of the series. The darker tones seemed to give off a "depressing" look and feel.
