In this, I get a feeling of a kind of sadness just because of how the images are pasted together... It's like the artist has taken photos of "beautiful" people, cropped them, pasted them together, and made them into something that society wouldn't consider beautiful. It defies what we typically see as beauty and, for me, evokes the feeling that no matter what, we're all beautiful, and we're all exactly the same.
haha, thats awesome. i really like this. To me the image is playful, the mix of facial colors and expressions works great. It is a relaxing happy portrait made me laugh and smile. The work so far is very good, in a way it looks like a painting. when the faces are done i'm interested if what kind of background you will use and how it can interact with the faces.
Katie, are you familiar with the artist Tony Oursler? His video collages remind me of this piece...you may enjoy his work: http://www.tonyoursler.com/
I see multiple parts of faces combined to create 3 separate faces. The faces are on a white background. They seem to have neutral expressions. I find myself trying to recognize the different people represented....in this way, it is almost like a game...I am wondering what is the significance of having 3 faces? These facial features are mutable and transferable. I am wondering if the artist is interested in our physical appearance in relation to personality...or the similarities vs. differences between certain individuals.
It is really coming along! I can't wait to see how it turns out.
